Last week, I was lucky enough to be invited along to Boden's AW14 press day. Held only a stone's throw away from one of the most iconic parts of London- Baker Street- the location was transformed into a celebration of all things quintessentially British, with union jack flags adorning the entrance, and an array of miniature British icons adding a retro dimension to proceedings. In typical British fashion, the heavens opened as soon as I made my way out of the Tube station, putting me in the perfect frame of mind to have a look at some autumnal offerings:
One of the most exciting things about any press day is to see how the inspiration behind a series of new season pieces is displayed, at the Boden team really went to town on showcasing their offerings for AW14 beautifully. Amidst an array of kitsch London memorobilia, the heritage and aesthetics which informed each story were made overt, with botanical prints sitting alongside packets of seeds and gardening manuals, and more formal favourites finding a home amongst vintage postcards and ephemora. For AW14, Boden have once again focused on high quality, practical outerwear-including a spectrum of gorgeous woolen coats designed to keep even the chilliest of winter breezes at bay. Tellingly though, these pieces are injected with a vivid, vibrant colour pallete- with bold blues and acidic oranges signalling that the coat is once again going to be a statement spend for the new season. After AW13's plethora of pink, it's lovely to see it returning once again so strongly here, graduating from pastel hues to fresh fuschias. For eveningwear, Boden have come up trumps with an elegant array of dresses, complete with embellished details and sequin accents, all offset against an array of statement accessories. Retaining a strong sense of the heritage inspiration which has guided the aesthetic of the collection is the Irish Guard print, found across shirts, jacket linings and accessories- and I've already got my eye on the co-ordinating woolly hat! I was also massively impressed with the shoes on display- from bejewlled party pumps to classic brogues, this really was a collection which had something for everyone.
What do you think of Boden's AW14 pieces?
