Now it seems that we're well and truly in the grip of winter, I've definitely found myself living in a series of jumpers which have been on a fairly steady rotation from washing machine to wardrobe over the last few weeks. I don't know about you, but at this time of the year I find it really tricky to get inspired about getting dressed day to day, particularly when it's pitch black outside in the mornings and my main priority is keeping as warm as possible. Having said that, sometimes it's nice to take a break from winter woollies and invest a bit more in getting dressed than just throwing on a jumper, and a recent addition to my wardrobe has done a really refreshing job in breaking the knitwear monotony:

 Blouse- French Connection
Jeans- Topshop
Coat- Vintage
Sunglasses- Vintage
Shoes- Adidas c/o JD Sports
Mittens- c/o Next
Bag- Warehouse

This blouse from French Connection was a birthday present which landed in lap earlier in the week, and it's definitely a real favourite. It's one of the few pieces I've seen in the shops recently which I've really liked, and it's something which I think is going to become a real staple. The embellished collar detail adds the perfect touch of festive sparkle too, so gets a definite seasonal thumbs up from me. It's a piece which is pretty versatile, and here I paired it with some staple jeans- but I can't wait to style it with some more formal trousers...if I can find the perfect pair! Much like my birthday last year, one of my favourite (and warmest!) coats came out too- proving that a great vintage piece never really goes out of fashion.

04.12.2014- What I Wore Today #208

As I mentioned in yesterday's post, recently I've been tending to shop for a small selection of higher quality basic pieces rather than spending my pennies on clothes which I know I'll only get one or two wears out of. Having said that, I am guilty of forgetting about some of my older purchases, so over the long Bank Holiday I took the opportunity to have a bit of a sort out and get reacquainted with some hidden wardrobe gems. With this in mind, my back to work outfit from yesterday was very much created with some old favourites in mind:

 Jacket- Topshop
Blouse- French Connection
Jeans- American Apparel
Shoes-Topshop

This jacket is something which I've featured once or twice in previous posts, but it's generally neglected in favour of my much loved boyfriend blazer from ASOS day to day, especially if I'm in a rush to leave the house! Having said that, it's definitely something which I need to get more wear out of, especially as the burgundy shade is one of my favourites. Yesterday I teamed it with another oft neglected gem in the shape of my French Connection blouse, a piece which I can't wait to style differently as the warm weather approaches.

Have you rediscovered any old wardrobe favourites recently?

03.04.2013- What I Wore Today #108

When it comes to putting together a staple winter wardrobe, I'm generally quite guilty of sticking to the same pieces. There's something about this time of year which makes me feel quite sloth-like, and when you're battling the unpredictable weather on a day to day basis it can be really tricky to find the right balance between keeping warm and not getting stuck in a style rut. With this in mind, this year I've been keeping my eyes peeled for some new knitwear, and my outfit from yesterday featured a fairly recent woolly purchase:

 Jumper- COS
Blouse (worn under jumper)- French Connection
Jeans- Topshop
Rings- Topshop
Necklace- Topshop

On this rather chilly occasion I grabbed my jeans and paired them with my new navy jumper. In my search for some practical, comfortable and good quality knits I stumbled across COS completely by accident but I'm really thankful I did. Although their pieces are a touch towards the more expensive side of the high street, everything seems really well made and long lasting- exactly what you need during this cold snap! I'm also head over heels in love with their galaxy print scarf, something which I'm sure I'll be picking up sooner rather than later. To break up the top to toe navy, I layered the jumper over my blouse from French Connection, and I love the 60s inspired twist which this flash of white lends the outfit. I'm also featured on the French Connection blog at the moment, so do pop over and have a peek if you fancy!

Are you finding it chillier than normal? And which winter pieces from last year are you looking forward to revisiting?

31.10.2012- What I Wore Today #67

Whilst I like to think that I'm quite adventurous with my wardrobe, the truth of the matter is I'm a real creature of habit. Pretty dresses, floral prints and embellished details are some of my fashion favourites, and whilst I'm all for embracing seasonal shades, there are a few colours which tend to come together to form the majority of my day-to-day outfits. True to form, what I wore today featured one of my favourite colour combinations:

Blouse- French Connection
Jeans- Topshop
Coat- c/o Very
Shoes- Topshop
Bag- Zara

Navy and white has got to be one of my favourite outfit pairings, and it's one which has made a fair few appearances in previous posts! I picked up this top from French Connection using a Westfield Voucher which I won towards the end of last year, so it cost me all of £7- what a bargain! I'd seen it in my local store at the end of the summer and knew it was something which I'd been adding to my wardrobe sooner rather than later- I love the contrast in colours as well as the collar detail, and it's something which I'm really excited to pair with some of my wardrobe favourites (and perhaps a bold red lip on more adventurous days!) For today I teamed it with my staple denim jeans and cosy camel coat- perfect for spending the afternoon indulging in tea and cake in celebration of Sarah's birthday!

Are you an adventurous dresser? And have you picked up anything new recently?

10.10.2012- What I Wore Today #59

As I mentioned in Friday's post, one of the things which I enjoy the most about the seasons changing is rediscovering old pieces in my wardrobe. As we all know, the coat is a cold weather staple, particularly during our more unpredictable climate, and, on days like today, waterproof is always a winner! Although yesterday was lovely, there was definitely a distinct autumnal chill in the air, which prompted me to reach for one of my cosy essentials:

Coat- c/o Very
Top- French Connection
Jeans- Topshop
Shoes- Topshop
Bag- Zara
Necklace- Whistles

You might remember this coat from Very from the start of the year, and it will come as no surprise that I've been eagerly biding my time before getting to wear it again. Not only is the camel colour a real classic, but the oversized fit also makes it perfect to wrap up in on chilly days. Whenever I wear it I always feel really elegant too, and it somehow feels like a timeless piece which I'll never get bored of wearing. Yesterday, for a day spent trekking around Westfield (and falling in love with the beautiful tea set from Zara Home pictured above!), I teamed it with some other wardrobe staples in the shape of this Breton top from French Connection, my ever-faithful Topshop jeans and Zara bag. In my head at least, this outfit was a homage to Parisian style- oddly appropriate as I'm going to spend this afternoon watching Midnight in Paris to avoid the downpours outside!

What are your favourite winter pieces? And how have you spent your weekend?
