After going through my wardrobe with a fine toothcomb about a month or so ago, I've been feeling pretty refreshed in the sartorial stakes. Now newly acquainted with the wonderful world of eBay, I'm also feeling quite savvy about what I'm deciding keep and what to bid a fond farewell too. Ultimately, if I don't wear it anymore then that's it- after all, there's no point in hanging on to something which rarely sees the light of day but which takes up all too valuable wardrobe space. Having a good old sort out is also a great way to deter myself from making spur of the moment impulse purchases- instead of splurging my pennies I'm now finding myself asking 'Will it end up on eBay in a few weeks?' I've also been really surprised to find a few purchases which have been sitting patiently in my wardrobe for a long while completely undisturbed, but which I'm now really enjoying getting some wear out of again. My outfit from the start of last week is a classic example:

Dress- Gold by Giles Deacon for New Look
Leggings- Topshop
Shoes- Topshop

The Giles SS14 presentation was one of my favourites of London Fashion Week, and immediately spurred me on to dig out this old treasure from his collaboration with New Look. It's a fair few years old now (in fact I'm pretty sure that I bought it especially for Fashion's Night Out in 2010), but it's a real forgotten favourite and a piece which I think is pretty timeless. I adore the simple shift shape, and the print is just perfect- especially at this time of the year when I'm looking to inject vibrant bursts of colour into every outfit in an effort to counteract the grey days of winter which are on the horizon. Although it's a piece which I probably don't wear as often as I should, it's a real dependable favourite and a purchase which has proved a really savvy investment over the years- in short, something which I'm pretty sure will be in my wardrobe forever.

Do you have any real wardrobe treasures which you've rediscovered lately?

01.10.2013- What I Wore Today #152

If you're a long time reader of this little blog of mine, then you'll know that I'm not exactly what you'd call a party animal. I'd much rather spend a cosy evening in front of a good film with a cuppa than out on the town, so my 'going out' wardrobe is pretty non-existent. However, last Saturday provided a bit of a break from the norm in that it marked a family birthday celebration- providing an ideal opportunity (or excuse, if you will!) for me to treat myself to something new and a little bit smarter in the evening dressing stakes:

Jumpsuit-Mango (via ASOS)
Belt- ASOS
Clutch Bag- c/o Next
Shoes- New Look

The jumpsuit is a piece which I'd neglected up until quite recently, as I'd always thought them quite impractical and something that I'd never be able to carry off. I was also quite skeptical about finding one which would fit me properly as I'm a touch on the tall side and didn't want to come a cropper (quite literally!) with something which may have fit perfectly but been too short in the leg. However, last Christmas I took the plunge and ordered one from Zara, only to find that it had a pull in it and had to be returned; in the midst of festive mania I didn't get round to reordering it so will be left forever regretful that it didn't find it's way into my wardrobe. That said, since then I've definitely been persuaded that jumpsuits are a really stylish alternative to dresses, and whilst having a sneaky browse of ASOS a few weeks ago, I stumbled upon this one from Mango. Not only do I love the contrast between the black and white, but it's also really nicely cut and offers quite a different, androgynous take on evening dressing- perfect for adapting to lots of different occasions. Here I styled it with another recent purchase from ASOS in the shape of this bow detail belt which I think adds a really nice finishing touch, and a simple white clutch from Next which I was lucky enough to find in my goody bag after attending their amazing Press Office Takeover a few weeks ago. All in all, this is a simple, minimalist look which I really love, and which I have a feeling will start to steadily influence a lot of my future purchases!

What type of pieces are you drawn to for evening outfits? And are you a fan of the jumpsuit?

05.05.2013- What I Wore Today #118

Well winter is certainly back with a bite, isn't it? Whether you're ploughing through the snow or keeping warm with copious quantities of tea, I think it's safe to say that spring can't come quickly enough. I'm sure I'm not the only one looking forward to rediscovering my summer wardrobe, and, sad as it might be to admit, I'm already putting together a series of dream warm weather outfits! For now though, it's all about cheering up my wardrobe with some colourful discoveries, and my outfit from the end of last week incorporated a piece which has become a real versatile favourite:

Top- Peter Jensen for People Tree (c/o New Look)
Jeans- American Apparel
Shoes- Topshop

When I was asked if I'd be interested in review a piece from New Look at the end of last year I jumped at the chance. Having not shopped there for a good few months, I was eager to familiarise myself with their new collection, and was really pleasantly surprised to see that they now stock a variety of brands online, as well as their own mainline range. This top by Peter Jensen for People Tree really caught my eye as I love the pattern- and after 2012 being such a brilliant year for Britain it seemed perfectly patriotic. I also really like the shape as it makes a nice change from the more traditional t-shirts which I've got in my wardrobe, and, as part of People Tree's range, of course it's made from 100% organically sourced, fair-trade cotton. On this occasion I chose to team it with perhaps the most comfortable jeans ever invented in the shape of the American Apparel Easy style- definitely worth a repeat purchase I think!

Are you a fan of New Look? And how are you coping with the cold weather?

14.01.2013- What I Wore Today #90

Whether you're a graduate going for your first entry level job or a professional working your way up the career ladder, styling yourself appropriately for different workplace scenarios is something which can prove quite overwhelming. As I mentioned in the first of my M&S style challenges, it's rarely a viable option to pick up a new outfit for each different workplace scenario you may be faced with, so getting your hands on a good selection of basics is crucial. The second of the challenges focuses on this need for a truly versatile work wardrobe, as my staple dress is once again put to the test:

Stepping up the career ladder- interview attire for a more senior role at a corporate firm.

Dress- c/o Marks and Spencer
Blazer- ASOS
Belt- c/o Marks and Spencer
Shoes- New Look
Bag- Zara
Tights- ASOS

This challenge was one which pushed me well and truly out of my comfort zone, given that I've never been interviewed for a promotion or been part of the corporate world! Having said that, I really enjoyed putting this look together and think it works quite well for this scenario. For this second outfit, I really honed in on creating something that was both smart and sophisticated, choosing to add a little more definition to my dress with this amazing chain detail belt from Marks and Spencer. I then co-ordinated this with the chain detail on my bag to create an outfit which felt well thought out and considered- something which I thought was particularly important given the more formal nature of this interview context. I chose to tie the whole look together with my statement blazer from ASOS- something which has been something of an interview staple for me since I bought it. Finally, I chose to incorporate a pair of heels into this look as I think they can really adjust your mindset- there's definitely something about the way they alter your posture which lends you an overall air of confidence- a real interview room essential, particularly in a scenario such as this.

Have you ever been interviewed for a promotion at work? And do you struggle to find appropriate office outfits?

02.10.2012- The M&S Style Challenge: Part Two

I don't know how you're fairing, but I'm finding it increasingly tricky to know what to wear in this weather! One moment we've got sunshine, the next torrential rain- I'm sure it's only a matter of time before the hailstones, snow and lightning storms appear! When things are this changeable, I always delve into my wardrobe to retrieve some casual staples, along with a cosy coat to keep the autumnal breeze at bay:

Coat- Topshop
Jeans- Topshop
Blouse- New Look
Shoes- Converse (via ASOS)
Bag- Zara

This coat from Topshop was a real wardrobe favourite of mine last year so it was something I happily reached for it as soon as it turned a little chillier. For this outfit I opted to wear it quite casually with jeans and a polka dot blouse, but it comes with a detachable collar which makes it a really versatile winter staple. My pair of Converse are another wardrobe basic which are essential at this time of year- not least for negotiating leaf strewn pavements and slippery train platforms, especially if you're as accident prone as I am! Part of me is even wishing it would get a little chillier so I can break into my knitwear stash (and so I have the perfect excuse to up my daily tea intake!)

How are you finding the weather? And are there any new season pieces which you can't wait to wear?

27.09.2012- What I Wore Today #56

Wasn't the weather at the weekend lovely? I'm really enjoying this last late burst of summer, particularly as it's the perfect excuse to enjoy copious amounts of iced tea in the garden! Given that it's been so warm, I've found the perfect excuse to dig out some of my holiday favourites, and my outfit on Saturday featured one of my favourite warm weather pieces:

Dress- c/o Clothing at Tesco
Bag- Zara
Shoes- Topshop
Necklace- Marc Jacobs
Bangle- New Look
Rings- Topshop & c/o Wonsuponatime

You might remember this dress from a holiday outfit post, where I mentioned that I couldn't wait to wear it again. Well, on Saturday I had the perfect opportunity! I went along to Shakespeare's Globe to see The Taming of the Shrew (which was fantastic!), and I also popped to Borough Market beforehand. I love spending time on Bankside and around London Bridge as there's such a variety of things to do, and at the weekend it was packed as people made the most of the sunshine and enjoyed the Thames Festival. Not only was this frock perfect for keeping cool in, but it's also really easy to wear, and ideal for teaming with a few new accessories in the shape of my Zara bag, Marc Jacobs necklace (a bargain Fashion's Night Out purchase!) and the Wonsuponatime ring which was in my goodie bag from their launch event. So cute and quintessentially English, don't you think? Completed with my comfy pumps from Topshop (I'm still nursing blisters from Thursday!) and a recently chopped barnet, this was a perfect late summer look.

How did you spend the weekend? And are you enjoying the sunshine?

11.09.2012- What I Wore Today #52

Am I the only one sick of this weather?! It's nearly June and it's still so gloomy outside! We can only hope that having had such a disappointing spring that the summer will be glorious, but, this being England, I very much doubt it! I'm just about to head out the cinema to watch Avengers Assemble for a second time (never let it be said that I don't know how to spend a Friday night!), so put together some of my favourite recent purchases:

Jumper- Monki
Blouse- New Look
Jeans- Topshop
Watch- Michael Kors c/o John Lewis
 Rings- Topshop

This jumper from Monki is perfect for overcast days like today, and it's fast becoming a go-to option. Worn with my sequin collar blouse and a pair of jeans, it's a transitional combination which I really like (although I'd much rather not need to wear a jumper in May!)

Are you eager for the warmer weather to arrive? And what are your key transitional pieces?

18.05.2012- What I Wore Today #25

This unpredictable weather is making it impossible to wear anything remotely summery, and with the rainy days more common than sunshine at the moment, I've reverted to simple pieces which are both wearable and weatherproof. I spent the best part of the day today optimistically window shopping for holiday clothes in London (and getting swept up in a sea of patriotic excitement after seeing so many Jubilee bits and pieces in the shops!), so opted for a comfy, classic combination:

Mac- Oasis
Blouse- Influence via New Look
Jeans- Topshop
Bag- Urban Outfitters
Shoes- Topshop
Watch- Michael Kors c/o John Lewis

This Influence blouse is a recent purchase, and I'm so glad I held off buying it! I spied it on the New Look website a month or so ago, and really regretted not picking it up when it sold out almost instantly. A few weeks later, however, and not only had it been re-stocked, but it was also in the New Look sale! Needless to say I was a very happy bunny, and managed to justify the purchase by convincing myself that I had technically saved money in the long run (ahem!) I love the polka dots, collar detail and bow, and think it will prove a really versatile piece when (or indeed if!) the warmer weather arrives. I also arrived home to some very exciting news- I'm now an Aussie Angel after submitting my entry over the weekend! I'm so chuffed!

Have you picked up any sales bargains recently?
