Whilst my everyday dressing isn't usually all that experimental, sometimes it makes a nice change to have a reason to get a bit dressed up. At the start of the week I was lucky enough to be invited along to the launch of the new Sister Jane shop on Portobello Road (post to follow soon!), which also provided the perfect excuse for an impromptu burger date with Aisling, Sophie and Lily. If you're a regular reader, then you'll know that I'm a massive fan of Sister Jane, so the event on Tuesday evening seemed like the perfect excuse to dig out one of my favourite designs from them and team it with a new purchase:

Blouse (worn under dress): Sister Jane (via ASOS)
Dress: ASOS
Tights: Marks and Spencer
Shoes: Topshop

This blouse has featured in many an outfit post, and is probably one of the most worn things in my wardrobe. Whilst it's a lovely standalone piece, the embellished collar detail also makes it perfect for layering- whether under chunky knit or under a dress as I styled it here. This dress from ASOS is a fairly recent addition to my wardrobe, added to my basket on a whim as a rainy day pick-me-up. Needless to say, when it arrived I was smitten- the oversized fit makes it really comfortable and easy to wear (not to mention perfect for hiding a burger belly!), and the batwing sleeves also add a really interesting dimension. It's definitely a piece which I can see becoming a real classic, and I'm now super tempted to pick it up in navy too!

Also, I finally got round to having my haircut-hooray! I'd forgotten how nice it feels not to spend half an hour wrestling with a blow dryer in the mornings!

Have you picked up any new wardrobe favourites recently?

01.03.2013- What I Wore Today #103

As I've said a fair few times in previous posts, I'm generally pretty guilty of forgetting about lots of pieces in my wardrobe. It's only when I'm having a good tidy or searching for a neglected gem that I'll stumble across bits and bobs which I've not worn in a long time, but rediscovering old pieces and restyling them is something which I really enjoy. Whilst it's usually my shoe collection which is abandoned in favour of a blister-free staple pair of pumps, there's a sizeable selection of blouses, dresses and jackets which I'll tend to rediscover every once in a while too. My outfit from the tail end of last week incorporated a few such previously forgotten pieces:

 Jacket- c/o Marks & Spencer
Jeans- Topshop
Blouse- Sister Jane via ASOS
Shoes- Topshop
Sunglasses- Vintage

You might remember this jacket from the M&S style challenge which I participated in a month or so ago. Having styled it for the week three challenge, I popped it into my wardrobe and had been a bit neglectful of it until now, unsure of how to incorporate it into my day to day wardrobe. However, in the midst of putting together some outfits for work, last week I rediscovered it, opting to pair in with my much loved blouse from Sister Jane- something which I still love almost a year after purchasing it. The classic navy and white combination seemed to really work, and teaming the jacket with the classic blouse felt like a really sensible way to make the comparatively bold polka dot print work for every day. Truth be told, this outfit is probably far more summery than the sort of thing I should be reaching for at this time if year (especially when teamed with my new vintage sunglasses!), but if this optimistic style of dressing means that we may yet get an Indian summer then I'm all for it!

19.11.2012- What I Wore Today #75

I don't know about you, but I definitely go through distinct wardrobe phases. For weeks at a time, I'll wear jeans with a variation of t-shirts and blouses, and then I'll swap them for dresses and skirts. Whilst this means that my day-to-day dressing is quite predictable, it does mean that I often rediscover some of my favourite pieces all over again:

Dress- Sister Jane via Topshop
Tights- ASOS
Shoes- Topshop
Watch- Michael Kors c/o John Lewis

As evidenced by Sunday's post, I'm definitely gravitating towards printed frocks at the moment! I shared this printed Sister Jane dress when I bought it back in May, and it seemed high time that it had another outing, this time for catching up with some college friends over a carvery dinner on Sunday evening. It's something which I know I'll get a lot of wear out of during the winter months, even if I'm still on the hunt for the perfect opaque black tights- if you've got any suggestions of where to pick some up then please do let me know!

Do you go through phases of how you dress? And have you made any impromptu winter purchases recently?

05.09.2012- What I Wore Today #49

I've featured Sister Jane in a couple of outfit posts over the last few months, so it seems like high time that I take a closer look at and introduce you to one of my favourite new fashion discoveries. The label takes its name from style icons Jane Birkin, Jane Fonda and Janis Joplin, and offers a really refreshing take on some modern wardrobe classics; think skater style dresses, peter pan collars and ladylike lace worn with the rock and roll attitude of 60s London and you're there. This season, Sister Jane have embraced feminine pastels, baroque prints and psychedelic florals, finished with their signature collars, fringing and chains, creating a collection which is as inspired by bohemian festival dressing as it is by vintage shapes and silhouettes:

Stocked by both Topshop and ASOS in the UK, I'm sure I'll be making some more Sister Jane shaped additions to my wardrobe soon. I really love the contrasting designs, and any collection which features an abundance of peter pan collars is a sure-fire hit with me! Next on my shopping list is the Floral Collar Blouse- so pretty, don't you think?!

Do you like Sister Jane? Have you picked up any of their pieces?

06.07.2012- Label Love: Sister Jane

It feels like I always start these posts with a moan about the weather, but considering it's May and we're still enduring wind and rain, it think we're more than entitled to complain! Today Sarah and I were invited along to the F&F at Tesco AW12 press event, where we had the chance to find out more about the pieces they're busy preparing for next season. I'm sifting through my photos as I type, so will be sharing more about the event itself in a future post, but suffice it to say they're offering an amazing range of clothing, shoes and accessories for the autumn (although if this dreary weather keeps up I'm sure we'll be needing them sooner rather than later!) Here's what I wore:

 Dress- Sister Jane via Topshop
Watch- Michael Kors c/o John Lewis
Rings- Topshop

This Sister Jane dress was a bit of an impulse buy I made when I was browsing the concessions in Topshop on Oxford Street a few weeks ago. I instinctively made a beeline for the sale rail and came across this, which I'd seen online towards the end of last year and really liked. With a fair bit of money off of the original ticket price, I headed straight for the till and am so glad I picked it up. I love the contrasting collar and sleeves, and the mini-daisy pattern is a nice alternative to polka dots. Worn with my trusty mac from Oasis (seen here), it was perfect for the unpredictable weather today!

Are you an impulse buyer? And how do you dress for the rain?

10.05.2012- What I Wore Today #24

Another cheeky retrospective outfit of the day for you! I wore this yesterday evening to Collection's 25th birthday celebrations, which took place just off Carnaby Street. Whilst the weather was warm, there was still a bit of a nip in the air, so I opted for this cosy combination:

Jumper- Zara
Jeans- Topshop
Blouse (worn under jumper) - Sister Jane
Necklace- Urban Outfitters
Rings- c/o Forever 21

I picked up this jumper from Zara over the weekend, and I'm so glad I finally managed to snap it up (the Regent Street store is a must visit if you're looking for something which you can't seem to track down elsewhere!) I love the pastel green colour, and it's a beautifully soft knit- perfect for this transitional weather. My Sister Jane blouse is a real favourite at the moment too- I love layering it with other pieces, and the collar added the perfect touch of party sparkle to an otherwise casual outfit. They've got some beautiful pieces out for the spring too, so I'm sure this blouse won't prove a lone purchase! Whilst wearing the necklace may have swerved this outfit into cheesy medallion territory, I added it just to break up the block colour and add a bit more definition overall (plus from what I hear the 70s DJ look is going to be the thing for next season!) Finally, my inner magpie just found time to grab my new Forever 21 rings before flying out of the door- I picked them up using a gift voucher I received at their SS12 press event and I couldn't be more pleased with them!

How are you embracing the transitional weather? And have you picked up any pastel pieces so far this season?

22.03.2012- What I Wore Today #14

These posts have been a little bit neglected of late, but with it getting dark so early at the moment it's proving tricky to take any photos which don't make me look like a long lost relative of the Addams family- put it this way, flash is not my friend! Anyway, I managed to catch my outfit for today on camera first thing this morning, before I headed out to meet Sarah for lunch and a spot of last-minute Christmas shopping (apologies in advance for the bad quality pictures!)

 Jumper- Zara
Blouse (worn underneath)- Sister Jane at ASOS
Jeans- Topshop

I got this jumper from Zara and blouse by Sister Jane as birthday presents- you might remember I featured them in a Monday Must-haves post a few weeks ago. I was a bit cautious about the jumper at first, but after much deliberation (and advice on washing it from Mumma!) I popped it on my birthday list. I'm so glad I did as it's lovely and really comfortable. I'm also really happy I got this blouse from ASOS (purchased using one of their 20% off codes) as it's proving to be quite a versatile addition to my wardrobe- I can't wait to wear it in the warmer weather!

How are you finding dressing for the cold?
